Baseball Loses Early Lead at No. 1 Louisville

Musketeers led 4-2 as late as the fifth, drop to 7-10 with loss
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Xavier baseball led as late as the fifth inning, but fell 13-4 against No. 1 Louisville on Wednesday at Patterson Stadium.
Xavier drops to 7-10 overall with the loss, while the Cardinals go to 16-0.

• Conor Grammes had his fifth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
• Rylan Bannon (1-for-3, BB), Nate Soria (1-for-3, R) and Will LaRue (1-for-4, R, RBI) added hits for XU.
• Sam Flamini walked twice and scored a run.
• The Musketeers drew seven walks in the game, which was their second-highest total of the season.

• Senior Trent Astle went 4.1 innings, allowing five earned runs and striking out one.
• Matt Kent continued his sterling start to the season, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless ball. He now has a 17.1 inning scoreless streak.
• David Williams and Trey Schramm gave up seven earned runs during a big seventh inning for Louisville.
• Brad Kirschner finished out the game, allowing one earned run and striking out one.Â

SECOND INNING: Nate Soria was hit by a pitch and Conor Grammes followed with a two-out single, kick-starting a rally. Will LaRue followed with a ground-rule double to right field, bringing Soria across. Grammes scored a play later on a passed ball. After Mitch Gallagher worked a walk, Matt Fallon reached on an error that allowed LaRue to score.
FIFTH INNING: Sam Flamini worked a leadoff walk, advancing to second on a ground out and to third on a single to right center by Nate Soria. Flamini then scored on an infield hit to third base by Conor Grammes.

• Xavier returns to the diamond on Friday, traveling to Ohio State for a 5 p.m. first pitch against the Buckeyes.
