Women’s Golf Heads to South Carolina for BIG EAST Championship

CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – The Xavier women's golf team travels to South Carolina today for the BIG EAST Championship. The three-day event will be played at Callawassie Island Golf Club's Dogwood and Magnolia courses.
The Musketeers will be competing against Butler, Creighton, Georgetown, Saint John's and three time defending champion Seton Hall with an automatic NCAA Championship berth on the line. Xavier comes into the tournament as the fourth ranked team according to Golfstat.
Xavier's lineup will be Mikayla Fitzpatrick in the number one position, followed by Grace Howie, Mikayla Smith, Rachel Johnson, and Lindsey Murray.
Mikayla Fitzpatrick comes into the tournament ranking sixth in the BIG EAST in scoring average (76.46). Grace Howie (78.36) and Rachel Johnson (78.73) are in the top-20.
Last year, Xavier finished in third as a team and Shane Crutchfield captured the individual title, the first conference title for a women's golfer in program history. Rachel Johnson and Mikayla Smith finished in the top-20. Two years ago, Grace Howie finished in ninth place individually.
Friday's tee times will be determined by seed and player rankings, while Saturday and Sunday's pairings are assembled from the previous day's leaderboard. Competition is scheduled to begin each day at 8 a.m. eastern time.
Live scoring will be available through Golfstat.com. The BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) will provide coverage of the final rounds on FoxSportsGo.
