Men's Tennis Prepares For BIG EAST Championship Play

CAYCE, S.C. – The Xavier University men's tennis team opens plays in the BIG EAST Championship this week at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C. No. 4 seed Xavier and No. 5 seed Marquette will meet in a quarterfinal matchup on Friday at 12:30 p.m.

Xavier finished 2-2 in BIG EAST regular season play, including a dramatic 4-3 win over Marquette on April 8 at the Brockhoff Family Tennis Facility at Xavier University. MU finished 1-3 in league play.

Seniors Matt Bishop, who plays at No. 1 singles, and Jeremy Schneider, who plays at No. 2 singles, lead the Musketeers into their tournament opener.

The winner of the Xavier/Marquette match plays at 9:00 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals against the winner of Friday's DePaul/Creighton quarterfinal match.

Bishop and Schneider talk about their final BIG EAST Championship. The match against Marquette takes on extra meaning for Bishop, who had the clinching victory in Xavier's win over Marquette in the regular season at XU.
