Three Former Xavier Basketball Standouts to be Inducted into Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame

CINCINNATI --- Three Former Xavier Basketball standouts will be Inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame on May 20. For more information on the induction ceremony and the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame, visit the hall's web site.
The 2017 Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame class includes former Xavier basketball players Eugene "Middie" Smith, Hank Stein and Carol Madsen.
Eugene "Middie" Smith played at Xavier from 1949-52. Smith played center for the Musketeers, leading the Musketeers in scoring all three years and finished his career as Xavier's all-time leading scorer with 1,109 points. He still stands tied for 34th on the current Xavier scoring list. Smith was inducted into the Xavier Athletics Hall of Fame in 1982.
Hank Stein played at Xavier from 1957-59 and is most remembered for his performance in the 1958 NIT tournament. Stein scored 90 points in four games, earning NIT MVP honors, and led the Musketeers to an upset win over Dayton in the championship game. Stein, who earned Converse Second Team All-American after the 1958 season, finished his career with 1,144 points and was inducted into Xavier Athletics Hall of Fame in 1983.
Carol Madsen is being recognized for excellence at Reading High School and Xavier University. Madsen played three years for Musketeers after playing her freshman year at Purdue. Over those three years, Madsen broke eight school records, was a two-time MCC Player of the Year, and the 1993 MCC Tournament MVP. Madsen finished her career with 1,702 points and was inducted into the Xavier Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999.
