Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson Earn Honors At Cincinnati Invitational

Cincinnati – The Xavier Women's Tennis team wrapped up round robin play this weekend at the Cincinnati Invitational. Senior Lauren Ghidotti took home MVP honors in singles for the tournament, while also earning doubles MVP honors with junior partner Sophia Abelson.
Head Coach Doug Matthews said "Our team competed well against some quality opponents. "Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson had a great weekend, going undefeated in singles and doubles. Newcomer Elizabeth Bagerbaseh had a very good start to her Xavier career, posting a 3-0 record in singles play. We have some areas we need to improve, especially in doubles play, but this was a great start."
On Friday, the Musketeers had singles matches against Illinois-Chicago and doubles matches against Ball State and Cincinnati. The Musketeers had strong singles play, taking six of seven matches against the Flames. The doubles matches came against Ball State and Cincinnati. The team of Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson won both of their matches, 6-0 and 6-1.
On Saturday, the Musketeers opened against Illinois-Chicago. The teams played a round of doubles, and the Musketeers won all three matches. After doubles finished, the first round of singles matches came against Ball State. Xavier took five of the six matches against the Cardinals then ended the day with a second round of singles matches against Cincinnati. Xavier won four of those six matches against the host school.
The Musketeers ended the weekend with a 15-4 record in singles play and 5-5 record in doubles play.
The Musketeers next match will be the Miami Invitational Sept. 29 through Oct. 1.
