
Women's Soccer Opens BIG EAST Play at Home with Creighton

Musketeers and Bluejays will face off at 1 PM on Sunday on the BEDN
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's soccer opens up BIG EAST play on Sunday afternoon, hosting the Creighton Bluejays at the 1:00 p.m. at the XU Soccer Complex. A live stream of the game will be available on the BIG EAST Digitial Network through FOX Sports Go.

- The Bluejays enter the game at 2-6-1 overall, coming off a 3-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday, Sept. 16. Ashleigh Cerlock's header was the first tally for CU in the sixth minute of the match. The eventual game-winner came in the 14th minute on a penalty kick by Taryn Jakubowski. CU added a third tally just before the break, from Kaira Houser, to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. After an extended delay due to weather, ONU tallied in the 66th minute to cut the lead to two, setting the final score.
- In addition to the win over ONU, CU has picked up results in a win over Kansas State (3-2) and a 2-2 tie with UMKC.
- Of Creighton's six losses, three have come against Big Ten or Big 12 squads, falling on the road at Iowa State, at Wisconsin and at Oklahoma State to open the season. The Bluejays also fell in overtime at South Dakota and to South Dakota State, as well as in regulation to Drake.
- Jakubowski leads Creighton with six points on three goals. Kylin Grubb and Houser each have a pair on the season. Three other Bluejays have recorded a goal.
- McKenzie Meola has played ever minute in-frame for CU, collecting 53 saves with 19 goals against.
- Creighton finished 2016 at 9-6-2 overall and 4-5 in BIG EAST play.
- During last season's match in Omaha, the Bluejays jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the match. The Musketeers countered in the 18th minute with a goal from Andie Kennard to cut the lead to 2-1, but Creighton would pull away, scoring again before halftime and three times in the second half in a 6-1 loss for Xavier.
- Xavier leads the all-time series 4-3-0.

- Xavier moved to 4-4-2 overall, and 4-2-2 at home after falling to Dayton to close out the non-conference schedule.
- The loss is the Musketeers' first in overtime this season, moving to 1-1-2 on the season in extra time.
- The Musketeers are 1-2-1 on the season against NCAA participants from 2016.
- The 1-0 loss to UD marks only the second time this season Xavier has been shut out.

- Westwater's seven points is tied for 10th in the league.
Dewey's goals per game (0.60) ranks first in the conference, with the preseason All-BIG EAST selection scoring three goals despite being limited to five appearances this season. Her points per game (1.20) ranks fourth. - Sydney Schembri's three goals in nine games is tied for ninth most goals per game in the BIG EAST.
- Courtney Lankford picked up the assist Westwater's goal against Kent State, her second of the season, matching Carrie Lewis for team-high and T-10th in the BIG EAST.
- Toni Bizzarro's total saves (52) ranks third in the BIG EAST and 30th in NCAA D-I. Her saves per game (5.78) ranks second in the conference and 38th in the country.
- As a team, Xavier ranks in the top five in the conference in total shots (113 - 4th). The Musketeers also lead the conference in saves (59) as a team.

- Xavier fell, 1-0 to Dayton last Sunday on a golden goal in the 97th minute.
- After playing to a 0-0 draw through regulation, in the seventh minute of overtime, Dayton's Sidney Leroy crossed to Jordan Pauley just outside the top of the box. Pauley buried the ball in the upper left corner of the net to end the game.
- Xavier's offense pressured for a goal late in regulation, taking three of its four second-half goals in the final five minutes, all three on frame.
- Overall, Dayton led 15-5 on shots for the game. Each team took one corner kick, both in the second half.
- Courtney Lankford took two shots for the Musketeers, Maddie Tierney, Carrie Lewis and Andie Kennard each had an attempt on-frame.
