Musketeers Fall in Four Sets to Butler on Saturday Afternoon

CINCINNATI – Xavier volleyball dropped a four-set (18-25, 27-25, 17-25, 18-25) matinee with Butler on Saturday at Cintas Center. The Musketeers moved to 6-9 (1-1 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improved to 11-3 (1-1 BIG EAST).

NOTABLES

• Morgan Finn and Katie Shunk led Xavier with nine kills each. Finn also posted a team-best .320 hitting percentage.

• Freshman Maya Krause added eight kills, while classmate Moriah Hopkins chipped in six. Lauren Frilling added five kills.

• Samantha Foti led the team in digs with 12. Meredith Klare and Mackenzi Humm both added eight digs.

• Mackenzi Humm led the Musketeers with 23 assists. McKena Estes added nine.

• Xavier move to 17-13 all-time in the series with Butler. The loss snapped the Musketeers' five-game win streak in the series.

SET ONE

• Butler led from start to finish in the opening frame. The Bulldogs hit .364, while limiting Xavier to a .100 hitting percentage.

SET TWO

• Set two had 10 ties and seven lead changes. Tied at 25, the Musketeers took advantage of a Butler attacking error followed by a Katie Shunk kill to win the set.

• Morgan Finn had four kills and Mackenzi Humm posted five digs and six assists.

SET THREE

• Butler took an early 12-5 lead to open the set. Xavier got within three (19-16) late in the set before the Bulldogs used a 6-1 run to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.

SET FOUR

• Butler led from start to finish in the final stanza. The Bulldogs scored the first seven points and never looked back, pulling away for the 25-18 win. Morgan Finn had three kills in three attempts.

UP NEXT

• Xavier closes out a three-match homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 27 against Marquette. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. from Cintas Center.
