Xavier, Marquette Set for Wednesday Night BIG EAST Match

First serve is set for 6 p.m. from Cintas Center
CINCINNATI – Xavier volleyball continues BIG EAST play on Wednesday, Sept. 27 against Marquette. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. from Cintas Center.
Xavier Athletics is collecting donations to support Hurricane Maria survivors at the match. Fans bringing items to donate will receive free admission to the match. The donations are being collected to support families affected by the hurricane.

• Jenna Rosenthal was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week helping MU to a 3-0 weekly record. The redshirt junior connected on 3.67 kills per set and hit a blistering .519 and increased her block average to 1.12 each contest.
• Xavier trails the all-time series with Marquette, 10-9. The Musketeers have won three of the last five meetings between the two schools.
• Xavier eliminated the Golden Eagles in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals last season in four sets. The two schools played back-to-back matches to end the year as the Musketeers also defeated Marquette in four sets to end regular-season action.

• Morgan Finn led the team in kills (18) last week with a .271 hitting percentage. Maya Krause added 17 kills and Kristen Massa chipped in 15.
• Meredith Klare averaged 4.00 digs per set last week. Alexis Newsome led the team in blocks (8) as the Musketeers held a 19-18 advantage in blocks.
• Xavier leads the BIG EAST in digs (16.19 d/s), while ranking 60th nationally. The Musketeers also rank third in blocks (2.47 b/s) in the conference, ranking 51st nationally in the statistical category.
• Meredith Klare ranks second in the conference in digs per set (4.30), while ranking 71st nationally in total digs (245).

• Senior Kristen Massa eclipsed the 1,000-career kill mark in the Musketeers' 3-1 win over Albany on Saturday, Sept. 16. She now has 1,017 kills over her career as the outside hitter has averaged 2.59 k/s during her career.
• Senior Kristen Massa was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Massa, a 2015 All-BIG EAST First Team selection, ranked third on the team in kills (292) last season, while adding 47 blocks and 63 digs. The Cincinnati native had 10 or more kills in 16 matches.
• The Musketeers were picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll as selected by conference head coaches. The Musketeers finished tied for second in the BIG EAST standings a year ago and advanced to the conference tournament championship match before being defeated by No. 21 Creighton.
