Musketeers host the Friars Thursday at 7 PM
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's soccer (5-4-2; 1-0 BIG EAST) closes a five-game home stand on Thursday, Sept. 28, hosting BIG EAST opponent Providence at 7:00 p.m. at the XU Soccer Complex.

PREVIEWING PROVIDENCE |
- The Friars enter the game at 6-4-0 overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST play after opening the conference schedule with a 1-0 win over Villanova.
- Hannah McNulty scored her second goal of the season against the Wildcats to secure the win for the Friars.
- PC comes in with a five game winning streak, picking up wins over UMass Lowell, Saint Joseph's, Arkansas and Brown. The Friars have won six of their last seven, including a win over CCSU.
- Providence opened the season with three-straight losses, against William & Mary, and at James Madison and Harvard. PC has lost just once since the second week of the season, a double-overtime loss at Minnesota.
- Juliana Pellegrini matches McNulty for team high in goals (2) and points (5).
- The Friars have 12 different players in the goal column through 10 games.
- Shelby Hogan has played the bulk of the minutes in-frame for Providence, collecting 46 saves with just 11 goals against for a 6-4-0 record, including four shutouts.
- Providence finished last season 11-7-2 overall and 5-3-1 in BIG EAST action.
- The Friars earned a bid to the BIG EAST Championship, falling to St. John's in BIG EAST Quarterfinals.
- In last year's match-up in Providence, the Friars took the early lead, scoring in the 12th minute and held the advantage through the break. Xavier tied it, 1-1, in the 60th minute on a goal from Samantha Dewey. The draw held through the end of regulation, forcing overtime where the Friars won on a golden goal in the 96th minute.
- Xavier stands at 1-4-0 in the all-time series with PC.

- The win improved the Musketeers to 5-2-2 at home.
- Emma Westwater and Sydney Schembri each scored their fourth goal of the season, matching each other for team-high and tying for third in the conference. Schembri's goals per game (0.40) are tied for third in the conference while Westwater's 0.36 goals per game rank ninth in the BIG EAST.
- Westwater leads the team with nine points, tied for seventh most in the BIG EAST. Schembri's eight points stands in second on the team.
- Carrie Lewis picked up the assist on Schembri's goal, her third of the season to lead the team. She ranks T-4th in the conference for goals and 10th in the BIG EAST with 0.27 assists per game.
- Schembri's goal against Creighton was her second game winner of the season, the most for the Musketeer and tied for the second most in the BIG EAST
- Toni Bizzarro's total saves (54) ranks third in the BIG EAST and 47th in NCAA D-I. Her saves per game (5.40) ranks second in the conference and 51st in the country.
- As a team, Xavier ranks in the top five in the conference in total shots (128 - 4th), total goals (14 - T-4th) and goals per game (1.27 - T-5th). The Musketeers also lead the conference in saves (61) as a team.

- Xavier took home a 2-1 BIG EAST win over Creighton on Sunday afternoon after a goal in the closing seconds of the match.
- Xavier took a 1-0 lead just before the halftime, when Carrie Lewis took a shot on-frame from about six yards out, forcing CU's keeper to make the diving save. With the keeper on the ground Emma Westwater came in from the right side to send the ball into the back of the net. In the final 15 minute of regulation, CU's Taryn Jakubowski served the ball from 30 yards out to Keelie Fothergill on the left side of the box. Fothergill dribbled the ball to the left corner of the net, shooting to the far post to tie the game. In the final minute of the game, Lewis served the ball into play on a corner kick, finding Sydney Schembri just outside the six-yard box. Schembri's header bounced off the crossbar and in to give Xavier the 2-1 lead with less than five seconds to play.
- Xavier took 15 shots to 10 for Creighton. Westwater's three led XU.
- Xavier had seven looks on-frame, each taken by a different Musketeers.
- Xavier forced six corner kicks to just one for Creighton, including three in the final five minutes of the game.
- Toni Bizzarro picked up her fifth win of the season, moving to 5-4-1 overall. Bizzarro finished with two saves and one goal against.
- Maddie Tierney and Carly Alfano played full time on the back line for Xavier.

WEEKLY HONORS |
- After scoring the game-winner against Creighton, Xavier women's soccer's Sydney Schembri earned the first conference honor of her career. The freshman forward was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, announced by the BIG EAST offices on Monday, September 25.
- With the clock winding down to the end of the second half with Xavier and Creighton in a 1-1 draw, Carrie Lewis set up for a corner kick. Lewis served the ball in from the left side, finding Schembri just outside of the six-yard box. Schembri used a header to flick the ball over the head of the CU goalkeeper, bouncing off bottom of the crossbar to score what would be the game-winner with less than five seconds remaining on the clock.
- Schembri is the fourth Musketeer to earn Weekly Honor Roll accolades. Samantha Dewey picked up the honor in weeks one and two of the season. Andie Kennard was named to the Honor Roll for the week of Sept. 4 and Emma Westwater earned the accolade for the week of Sept. 11.
