Women's Soccer Heads to Duquesne for Friday Match

Musketeers return home Sunday evening for NKU
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's soccer returns to the road Friday, Sept. 8, heading to Pittsburgh to face Duquesne. The Musketeers and the Dukes are set to face off at 7:00 p.m.

PREVIEWING THE DUKES |
- The Dukes enter the game at 2-2-0, coming off a 1-0 win over Illinois State on Friday, Sept. 1. Duquesne got a goal from Linnea Faccenda in the 20th minute and 10 saves from goalkeeper Kyra Murphy to defeat defending Missouri Valley Conference champion.
- Prior to the game with Illinois State, the Dukes picked up a win over Oakland, 3-0, and fell to top ranked West Virginia, as well as to Pitt in overtime.
- Faccenda leads the Dukes with three goals scored. Katie O'Connor has also added a goal for DU.
- Kyra Murphy has played all four games in-goal for the Dukes, collecting 26 saves with four goals against for a record of 2-2-0.
- Duquesne finished 2016 with an overall record of 11-6-3 and a record of 7-2-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
- The Dukes closed out the 2016 season in the A10 Tournament quarterfinals, falling to George Washington.
- Last season against Xavier, the two teams squared off at UC's Gettler Stadium where the Dukes jumped out to a quick lead with a goal in the sixth minute. An insurance goal for DU in the 36 minute set the final score at 2-0 in favor of Duquesne.
- After last season's loss, Xavier lead the all-time series with DU, 10-6-1.

- With the win over Ohio, Xavier moved to 3-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 at home this season.

- Xavier beat Ohio, 2-1, on a golden goal in double overtime last Sunday.
- Less than two minutes into the second half, an Ohio foul at the top of the box set up the free kick for Addie Englehart. The senior served the ball into the box, a look that clipped the left post, ricocheting to Caitie Baron on the right side of the six-yard box. Baron buried the header into the right corner of the net to put the Musketeers up, 1-0.
- The Musketeers held the Bobcats scoreless for over 80 minutes before Allie Curry worked the ball into the box off a throw in from the left side. Curry snuck the ball into the corner for the equalizer, 1-1, that would eventually force overtime.
- In the fourth minute of the second overtime, the Musketeers set up on a free kick from the top of the box. Carrie Lewis received the ball on the right side, crossing to Andie Kennard on the left side of the six-yard box where Kennard finished to the left corner for the golden goal win.
- Baron's goal was the first tally of her college career.
- Andie Kennard's golden goal was the first of the season and second of her college career. It also goes down as the first game-winner for the junior.
- Carrie Lewis' assist on the game winner is her second of the season.
- Tori Doss and Sydney Schembri each recorded three shots to lead the Musketeers.
Toni Bizzarro collected six saves with one goal against, playing the full time for the Musketeers.

KENNARD NAMED TO HONOR ROLL |
- Xavier women's soccer's Andie Kennard earned recognition for her play over the weekend as the junior defender was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll by the conference office on Monday.
- Kennard, a native of Cincinnati, played 173 minutes over the weekend as an outside back for the Musketeers. In addition to her work on the Xavier back line, the junior defender also led a number of counter attacks on offense for the Musketeers and finished off a set-piece to score the game-winner for the Musketeers in the 104th minute of the match against Ohio on Sunday.
- This is the first weekly honor from the BIG EAST Conference offices for Kennard, and the third for the Musketeers this season after Samantha Dewey earned Weekly Honor Roll accolades in the first two weeks of the season.
