Taylor's Late Goal Helps XU Extend Unbeaten Streak Against UC in 1-1 Tie
09.08.17 | Men's Soccer
The Musketeers extended their unbeaten streak against the Bearcats to eight straight with tonight's result
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer battled to a 1-1 draw at Cincinnati on Friday night, coming back from a deficit to earn a result with an 85th minute goal by Cameron Taylor.
Playing before a record Gettler Stadium crowd of 2,013, which was limited to standing room only, the Musketeers (3-1-1) allowed a restart goal in the 57th minute to fall behind on the road for the second straight match.
Just like Monday at Boston College, however, the Musketeers dug deep and found the equalizer late in the second half. This time, it was Taylor with his third tally of the season to give XU a shot in overtime.
Only one shot went on frame in the extra periods as the two teams tied for the first time since 2011. XU is now 5-0-3 against the Bearcats since 2010.
• Cameron Taylor's goal was his third of the season, tying him for the team lead.
• Josh Grant, Matt Vasquenza, Simen Hestnes and Samson Sergi went without points for the first time in four matches. The quartet had supplied at least a point in each of the previous three matches.
• Xavier was held to just one goal and is now 0-1-1 when scoring just once this season. The Musketeers have scored three goals in all three of their wins.
• XU moves to 2-0-1 on the road this season.
• Xavier led the match in shots, 13-12, and took 13 corners against UC's five.
• Jacob Goodall connected with Cam Taylor in the 85th minute for his fourth assist of the season, tying him with Josh Grant for the team lead.
57' | Cincinnati 1-0 | Austin Smythe scored off a corner from David Sanz to give UC the lead just over 10 minutes after halftime.
85' | Tied 1-1 | Cameron Taylor poked in the equalizer late in the second half, heading in a pass from Jacob Goodall on the right side of the box. XU had gained control of a rebound in the box when Simen Hestnes layed a ball off to Goodall on the left side. Goodall then chipped across to Taylor, who sent the ball into the lower right side for his third goal of the year.
• Xavier returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 12 for an evening match against Cleveland State. First touch is set for 7 p.m. at XU Soccer Complex.
