Cory Brown Selected in Third Round of 2018 MLS SuperDraft

Defender selected by Vancouver Whitecaps FC as 62nd overall selection
PHILADELPHIA - Cory Brown was selected in the third round (62nd overall) by Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday as part of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.
Brown becomes the fourth Musketeer to be drafted in the last six years and gives XU a draft pick for the second straight year. In 2017, Jalen Brown was drafted in the second round (38th overall) by NYC FC.
Nick Hagglund was the last XU soccer player drafted prior to Brown, going 10th overall to Toronto FC in 2014. Luke Spencer, who went to New England with the 22nd pick of the 2013 draft, was Xavier's first-ever MLS draft pick. All four picks XU picks have come in the first three rounds.
Brown, a native of Nelson, New Zealand, is the latest in a list of nationally-recognized defensive players for XU. He was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List ahead of the season and capped one of the best careers in XU history in 2017 with a third straight First Team All-BIG EAST selection and a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team.
A native of Nelson, New Zealand, Brown started all 20 matches and led the team in minutes this fall, playing a part in six shutouts and adding a goal and three assists from the backline.
For his career, Brown played a part in 31 career shutouts and was an named all-conference player in all four of his years on campus.
During the 2014 season, Brown was instrumental in XU's run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. He also helped XU reach two BIG EAST Championship matches in the last four years.
