Lauren Fitz-Randolph Wins Flight at ITA Ohio Valley Regionals

CHATTANOOGA – After five days of competition at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, Xavier women's tennis finished the event with 20 singles wins, the B-Flight Championship and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the main draw.

"This was a really good tournament for us," said head coach Doug Matthews. "We got a lot of quality matches in. Congrats to Lauren for winning her flight and beating some good players along the way. Also, great job by Emily to make the quarterfinals of the main draw. The last player to do that was Sydney Liggins. Overall, we know we have some things to work on, but our depth and competitiveness really stood out over the weekend."

Lauren Fitz-Randolph collected five of those wins on her way to winning the B-Flight, beating competitors from IUPUI, Tennessee, Memphis and Miami in two sets each on her way to the championship match of the 64- competitor bracket. In the Championship match, Fitz-Randolph topped Claire Sullivan of Memphis, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, to claim the title.

Emily Thomas collected three singles wins, advancing to the Quarterfinals in the 128-person main draw, collecting wins over competition from Lipscomb, Louisville and MTSU before falling to Emily Smith of Vanderbilt.

Hunter Roper also advanced in the main draw, picking up a win over Caitlin Calkins of Purdue. After falling in the second round, Roper picked up two more wins in the consolation bracket.

Kaitlin Ruether also picked up a first-round win, in the B-Flight, over Maria Plaksina of Belmont.

In doubles play, the teams of Sophia Abelson and Emily Thomas, Ahmeir Kyle and Rachael Reichenbach, and Fitz-Randolph and Ruether each picked up a win in the main draw, with all three pairs going 1-1 in doubles play.
