Swimming Travels to Louisville for First Dual Meet of the Season

Meet set to begin at 2 PM, changed from original start time of 1 PM
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's and women's swimming head to Louisville, Ky. for the first dual meet of the season, taking on the Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. The start time is moved back from the originally scheduled start time of 1:00 p.m.

ABOUT LOUISVILLE |
- This is the first event of the season for the Cardinals.
- UofL finished second in the ACC on the men's and women's side. Louisville's women placed fifth at the NCAA Championships while the men finished ninth.
- UofL's women return 11 of 12 members from last season's nationals squad, including two-time National Champion Mallory Comerford (200 free). Comerford also finished second in the 100 free at NCAA Championship.
- On the men's side, five Cardinals who earned individual All-American honors return.
- Marcelo Acosta fifth-place finish in the mile at the NCAA Championships led the Cardinals last season.
- Xavier last faced Louisville in Oct. 2016.
- At the 2016 meet, the Musketeer women fell by a final score of 198-62, while the men fell to Louisville with a final score of 210-65.

WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- At the Butler Double Dual, Xavier's women won the event for the fourth-straight season, winning 10 of 11 racing events.
- Xavier's women opened the meet by taking three of the top six spots in the 200 medley relay, including the top spot for Ali Fort, Lydia Schaeffer, Caroline Gaertner and Emily Conners.
- Emma Kauffeld and Tilly Baldwin took the top two spots in the 1000 free. Kauffeld also collected the top spot in the 500 free.
- Emily Saugstad led in a trio of Musketeers in the top three of the 200 free, taking first. Abby Garner touched second and Katie Kerr placed fourth.
- Emily Conners picked up where she left off last season in the freestyle sprints, placing first in the 50 free and 100 free. Tianna Vozar placed second in the 50 free, while Emily Saugstad and Abby Garner finished second in third in the 100 free.
- Taylor Hogan and Alison Herman claimed the top two spots in the 400 IM. Hogan claimed a second event win in the 200 fly.
- Caroline Gaertner and Ali Fort claimed the top two spots in the 200 back.
- Lydia Schaeffer finished second in the 200 breast.
- Xavier's women closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay for Caroline Gaertner, Tianna Vozar, Abigail Garner and Emily Saugstad, touching the wall nearly three seconds ahead of the next closest squad.
- Xavier collected team wins over Saint Louis, Butler, Evansville and Eastern Illinois.

MEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- At the Butler Double Dual, the Musketeer men finished with wins over two of the three squads they competed against, winning four events.
- Xavier's men opened the meet by taking three of the top six spots in the 200 medley relay, led by a third place finish for Sam Johanns, Matthew Dyer, Brandon Abboud and Alex Sironen.
- Nick Mahoney claimed the top spot in the 1000 free. Patrick Hackett finished third less than eight seconds behind.
- Ben Quon and Jared Ritz collected second and third, respectively, in the 200 free.
- Sironen placed first in the men's 50 free, followed closely in by Matthew Geraghty in second place.
- Chase Baldwin picked up a second-place finish in the 400 IM.
- Landon Clark and Brandon Abboud finished fourth and fifth respectively to lead the Musketeers in the 200 fly.
- Enrique Hernandez's second place finish in the 100 free led three Musketeers in the top four. Sam Johanns and Matthew Geraghty followed him into the wall.
- Sironen led three Musketeers in the top five in the 200 back. Nathan Runyon placed fourth and Baldwin finished fifth.
- Ben Quon took the top spot in the 500 free.
- Matthew Dyer led the Musketeers in the 200 breast with a third place finish.
- The Xavier men closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free, with Sam Johanns, Enrique Hernandez, Ben Quon and Jared Ritz touching the wall over three seconds ahead of the second-place relay.
- Xavier collected team wins over Eastern Illinois and Evansville, but fell to Saint Louis.
