NEW YORK - Samson Sergi was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after supplying five points in a 1-0-1 week for Xavier men's soccer. The redshirt junior was honored alongside teammate Cameron Belle, who earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after a two point week.
Sergi, a native of Ashburn, Va., registered two goals and an assist, getting the game-winner in fifth minute of Saturday's 1-0 win over visiting Villanova and assisting on the equalizer in Tuesday's 3-3 draw against Santa Clara. Against the Broncos, Sergi scored in the 30th minute and also assisted on an 84th minute goal by Felix Boe-Tangen to help XU force overtime and an eventual draw. He also led XU with six shots for the week and is now tied for second on the team with three goals this season.
Belle, a redshirt freshman from West Chester, Ohio, had a pair of assists last week, both coming on Sergi goals. He also put a shot on goal in both matches and has registered a point in back-to-back matches for the first time in his career. He now ranks third on the team with three assists this season.
Xavier (4-2-5, 2-1-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Tuesday night, hitting the road to face Loyola Chicago at 7 p.m. ET.
