11.09.18 | Men's Basketball
Musketeers shoot for a 2-0 start to the new season.
CINCINNATI --- The Xavier Musketeers, 1-0, host the Evansville Purple Aces, 0-1, on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Cintas Center. The matchup is a renewal of Xavier's rivalry with an old MCC foe.
Xavier played 16 seasons in the MCC (Midwestern City Conference and later the Midwestern Collegiate Conference) and Evansville was its biggest rival for the first 15 of those 16 years. Xavier never played in the conference under its current name, the Horizon League. XU was in the MCC for 16 years (1980-1995) and the Atlantic 10 for 18 years (1996-2013). This season marks Xavier's sixth year in the BIG EAST.
Xavier leads the series with Evansville 26-14, although the two teams have met only once since XU left the MCC following the 1994-95 season. XU defeated UE 63-60 in the 2013-14 season (12-10-13).
