Women's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis head coach Doug Matthews announced a 20-match regular season schedule for Spring 2019, leading into the BIG EAST Championships. Xavier will begin its dual schedule on January 18, 2019 at Iowa, where the Musketeers will face the host Hawkeyes as well as North Texas. Xavier will host nine matches and make nine road trips prior to the BIG EAST Championship, set to begin April 18, 2019 in Cayce, S.C.

- The Hawkeyes finished last season with a 10-14 record and recorded 2 Big Ten Conference wins.
- Xavier did not match up with Iowa in any 2018 fall invitational.
- The Musketeers did not play Iowa last season.Â
- North Texas had an overall record of 9-14 in the 2017-18 spring season.
- Xavier did not play North Texas last season.
- Xavier will be Indiana's first opponent of the spring season.

- The Raiders and the Musketeers last faced off in 2014-15. Xavier won, 6-1, in that match-up.
- Dayton finished last season at 14-9 overall with a 3-1 mark in the Atlantic 10. UD fell in the Quarterfinals of the A10 Championship.
- Last season, Musketeers picked up a convincing 7-0 win over the Flyers in Dayton, with Ahmeir Kyle, Lauren Ghidotti, Sophia Abelson, Rachael Reichenbach, Elizabeth Bagerbaseh and Lauren Fitz-Randolph picking up singles win, and Ghidott/Abelson and Bagerbaseh/Zoe Manion winning their doubles match to take the doubles point.
- ETSU finished 2017-18 at 13-11 overall and 5-2 in SoCon matches.
- The Bucs' season came to an end in the championship match of the SoCon tournament, falling to the No. 1 seed Furman, 4-1.
- The Musketeers and the Bucs have not faced each other in the past five seasons.
- Cornell went 7-13 last season, including a 1-6 mark in the Ivy League.
- The Musketeers did not face off with Cornell last season, but this is the third straight season, in which Xavier will face an Ivy League team, with three total matches.

- Creighton finished last season at 15-8 overall, and with an 0-2 mark in the BIG EAST during the regular season.
- Xavier took the 4-2 win over the Bluejays at Marquette in the regular season. Xavier took the doubles point after winning in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Xavier collected wins in the No. 3 spot for Rachael Reichenbach, No. 4 spot for Elizabeth Bagerbaseh and No. 6 spot for Lauren Fitz-Randolph to secure the win.
- Creighton played as the No. 7 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament, beating No. 10 Providence in the first round and advancing to play No. 2 seed DePaul in the quarterfinals.
- Seton Hall finished last season at 7-11 overall, and 3-3 in BIG EAST play. The Pirates fell to Xavier in the BIG EAST quarterfinals, 4-1.
- The Pirates also fell to Xavier in the regulars season, a tight 4-3 win for the Musketeers on senior day. Xavier took the doubles points on wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, then collected wins for Lauren Ghidotti (No. 2), Sophia Abelson (No. 3) and Elizabeth Bagerbaseh (No. 5) to clinch the win.
- Marquette finished 12-10 last season, advancing to the Semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship where they fell to DePaul, 4-2.
- Marquette picke dup a 4-3 win against Xavier. The Musketeers took the No. 3 spot but dropped the doubles point, and collected wins in the No. 1 spot (Kyle), No. 4 spot (Reichenbach) and No. 5 spot (Bagerbaseh). Sophia Abelson played to a tiebreaker in the third set of the No. 3 spot, but fell to secure the win for the Golden Eagles.
- The Friars finished 4-16 in 2017-18, including an 0-4 mark in the BIG EAST regular season. As the No. 10 seed, PC fell to Creighton, 4-0, in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
- The two teams last faced off in 2016-17, a 7-0 win for the Musketeers.
- The Blue Demons finished last season 10-11 overall and 3-2 against BIG EAST teams.
- DePaul defeated Creighton, 4-1, and Marquette, 4-2, to advance to the BIG EAST Championship match, where the Blue Demons fell to St. John's 4-2.
- In the regular season, Xavier fell, 4-1 to the Blue Demons, with the point coming on a sweep of doubles play for the Musketeers.
- MTSU finished last season at 19-8, going 3-2 in Conference USA play. The Blue Raiders fell, 5-0, to the top seed FIU in the C-USA Championship semifinals after topping UTSA, 4-0, and FAU, 4-3.
- In last season's meeting, Xavier fell, 4-1, late in the season. Xavier took the doubles point after Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson took the win in the No. 1 spot, and Ahmeir Kyle and Rachael Reichenbach took the win in the No. 2 spot.
- UC finished 11-10 overall last season, and 2-3 in the American Athletic Conference regular season.
- The Bearcats fell in their opening round match in the AAC Tournament, 4-1, to Memphis.
- Last season, Xavier fell narrowly, 4-3, to the Bearcats. The Musketeers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, taking the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Lauren Ghidotti's win in the No. 2 singles spot put Xavier ahead by two points before wins in the No. 5 spot and No. 1 spot tied the match 2-2. Rachael Reichenbach put XU back ahead with a win in the No. 3 spot, but UC took the final two matches for the win.
- Butler went 9-17 in 2017-19, including 2-4 in BIG EAST matches. The Bulldogs' season ended in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship, falling 4-0 to Georgetown.
- In last season's match-up, the Musketeers swept the Bulldogs, 7-0. Xavier won the doubles point convincingly, taking both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, 6-2, while leading 5-2 in the No. 2 spot when the point was decided. Xavier won all six singles spots in two sets.
- The BIG EAST Championship returns to the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C. for 2019.
- Xavier was the No. 4 seed in last season's Championship, taking a Quarterfinal win over Seton Hall, 4-1, to advance to the Semifinals for the fifth-straight year
- In the semifinals, the Musketeers fell to the No. 1 seed St. John's, 4-0, to close out the season.
