Women's Golf Places Second in Ball State Invitational

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.— The Xavier women's golf team placed second in the Ball State Sunshine Invitational this weekend. The neck-to-neck competition came down to the final match between the Musketeers and Ball State.

With the teams tied 13-13 and three matches remaining, Ball State's Sydney Anderson posted a one up victory over Madison McCreary of Valparaiso by winning her 18th hole of the day and giving the Cardinals a 14-13 lead. Sophomore Mikayla Fitzpatrick defeated Amelie Svejda of IUPUI on the 18th hole of their match to even the team scores back at 14-14. Ball State earned an additional .5 point over Western Illinois in the final match of the day when the result was halved.

Freshman Morgan Tinsley and Andie Shukow had an impressive round three on the green leading the Musketeers. Tinsley led the team with an 8-7 advantage in the third round, finishing the tournament with a total of 14 points. Shukow bounced back after being defeated in the second round to earn a 6-5 third-round victory.

Mikayla Smith left the weekend undefeated, earning victories in all three rounds. In round one, Smith defeated Western Illinois' Ashley Dumler in the first round, 4-3. In the second round, Smith's face off with IUPUI's Amelie Svejda two up. In the final round, Smith found earned a 5-4 victory over Ball State's Emily Knouff.
