
A Three Match Winning Streak and a Perfect Start to BIG EAST Play for Women's Tennis

Cincinnati, OH – Xavier Women's Tennis runs its winning streak up to three games after defeating the Butler Bulldogs 7-0 in the 2018 BIG EAST opener. Tonight's win makes the Musketeers winners of the last seven matchups against the Bulldogs.
Head Coach Doug Matthews was pleased with his team's performance, "Tonight was a complete team effort. We were focused and ready to go from the start. We have gotten a lot better from the start of the season. Next weekend we get to really test ourselves with two tough road matches against Princeton and Penn."
In singles, all Musketeers won in straight sets. At No. 1, freshman Ahmeir Kyle won 6-3, 6-2 in the first BIG EAST match of her Xavier career. At No. 2, senior Lauren Ghidotti took care of business winning 6-2, 6-1. Junior Sophia Abelson continued her strong singles play winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Abelson moves to 5-1 on the season in singles play. Sophomore Rachael Reichenbach only dropped one game in her match on her way to winning 6-0, 6-1. Reichenbach has won five of her last six matches, including three in a row since moving up to No. 4 singles. At No. 5, Senior Elizabeth Bagerbaseh controlled her first BIG EAST match winning 6-2, 6-1. Lastly at No. 6 singles, Sophomore Lauren Fitz-Randolph dominated. She dropped only game in route to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
In doubles, Xavier swept the Bulldogs. At No. 1 doubles, the duo Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson improved to 4-2 on the season winning 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Ahmeir Kyle and Rachael Reichenbach were ahead 5-2 before the match was discontinued, while at No. 3 doubles the team of Zoe Manion and Elizabeth Bagerbaseh made quick work of their opponents winning 6-2.
The Musketeers take their winning streak to New Jersey and Pennsylvania to face off in a weekend series against Princeton and Penn on Feb. 17th and 18th.
