Xavier Women's Tennis Falls on the Road Against Princeton
02.17.18 | Women's Tennis
Princeton, N.J. – The Xavier women's tennis traveled to take on the Princeton Tigers this weekend. The Musketeers drop a tough match 7-0 to the undefeated Tigers.
Head Coach Doug Matthews commented about the match, "We have to give Princeton a lot of credit today. We had them on ropes in doubles and we just didn't' finish. Once they got the lead they were great front runners and took control in singles. We have another opportunity against Penn tomorrow and we are excited for that"
In singles, the Tigers took all six matches. At No. 1 singles, Ahmeir Kyle lost in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 and at No. 2, Lauren Ghidotti lost 6-1, 6-0. Both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles players for Princeton were ranked in the ITA Top 100. The Tigers won in straight sets at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6, but Sophomore Rachael Reichenbach took her opponent to a third set tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (9-7), 0-6, 0-1 (6-10).
In doubles, the No. 2 duo of Ahmeir Kyle and Rachael Reichenbach won the lone match for the Musketeers. 6-4. Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson took their opponents to tiebreak at No. 1 doubles but lost 7-6 (7-5).
The women's team travels to Philadelphia to take the University of Pennsylvania tomorrow, Feb. 18 at 1:00 p.m.
