Creighton Pulls Away Late, Tops Xavier, 65-54

OMAHA, Neb. – Xavier women's basketball dropped a 65-54 road contest at Creighton on Friday night at D.J. Sokol Arena. The Musketeers moved to 9-18 (2-14 BIG EAST), while the Bluejays improved to 15-9 (10-5 BIG EAST).
• Xavier took a 12-7 lead after one quarter of play behind five points and three rebounds from A'riana Gray. The seven Creighton points were a season-low in the opening quarter of a game this season for the Bluejays.
• The Musketeers hit their first six shots of the second quarter to build a 27-18 advantage at the 5:01 mark. Xavier finished the quarter hitting 80 percent (8-for-10) of its shot attempts to take a 32-30 lead into the locker room. Creighton was 9-for-13 from the floor in the frame to cut its deficit to two points.
• Jada Byrd paced the Musketeers with nine points on 4-for-7 shooting at intermission. Na'Teshia Owens added eight points on 3-for-4 shooting, while A'riana Gray led Xavier on the glass with three rebounds. Creighton held a 16-11 advantage in rebounds.
• Both teams continued their solid shooting in the third quarter as Xavier went 7-for-13 and Creighton went 8-for-14. The Bluejays outscored the Musketeers, 21-16, to take a three-point lead into the final frame, 51-48.
• Both teams cooled off from the floor in the final quarter as neither squad made a basket for four minutes to open the frame. Creighton led, 53-50, with 5:52 left in regulation before outscoring the Musketeers, 11-4, to close the game.
• Na'Teshia Owens paced the Musketeers with a career-high 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting. She added two steals and two rebounds.
• Jada Byrd added 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting with two rebounds. Imani Partlow finished with eight points and Princess Stewart added six points.
• Creighton won the battle on the glass, 30-23, and held a 15-7 advantage in points off of turnovers. A'riana Gray led Xavier on the glass with six rebounds.
• Xavier posted a .489 field-goal percentage (22-for-45), while the Bluejays hit 45.5 percent of its shot attempts (25-for-55).
