Conners Sets New School Record, NCAA B-Cut Time in 50 Free During Day Two of BIG EAST Championships

Xavier's men, women stand in fourth place with two days of competition remaining
GENEVA, Ohio - Sophomore Emily Conners highlighted day two for Xavier Swimming at the BIG EAST Championships, setting a new school record and setting an NCAA B-Cut time in the 50 free to take the silver medal. Conners also helped Xavier's women to a second-place finish in the 200 free relay. After day two of four days of competition, both Xavier's men and women stand in fourth place.Â
Events resume tomorrow at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. with finals set for 6:00 p.m.

 WOMEN'S NOTABLE |
- Katie Kerr and Emma Kauffeld both qualified for the B-Final of the 500 free. Kerr finished 10th at finals with a season-best time of 4:57.90.Â
- Emily Saugstad and Alison Herman both posted qualifying times for the B-final in the 200 IM during the morning session. In the finals, Saugstad and Herman placed 13th and 14th respectively.
- Emily Conners' time of 23.02 in the prelims of the 50 free was the fastest time in the morning heats and just .01 seconds off her school-record time. She topped her school record, and set an NCAA B-Cut time in the finals, finishing second with a time of 22.92.Â
- Paxtyn Drew and Abigail Garner both qualified for the championship heat of the 50 free as well, with Drew finishing sixth and Garner placing eighth.
- Tianna Vozar and Caroline Gaertner both qualified for the B-Final of the 50 free. Vozar set the top time in the consolation final, finishing in 23.51. Gaertner touched the wall third in the B-Final.
- Conners, Garner, Vozar and Paxtyn Drew closed out the night with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay.
- Xavier stands in fourth place, just 13 points behind Seton Hall.

 MEN'S NOTABLE |
- Two Musketeers, Alex Wolfred and Nick Mahoney, qualified for the championship heat in the 500 free during prelims by posting season-best times. Wolfred finished fifth and Mahoney placed seventh during the finals heat.
- Jared Ritz and Brandon Abboud qualified for the B-Final of the 500 free, with Ritz posting a time of 4:34.34 to finish 11th and Abboud finishing 14th.
- Xavier had a pair in the championship final of the 200 IM, Matthew Dyer and Chase Baldwin. Dyer finished the finals heat in sixth place and Baldwin placed eighth. Landon Clark competed in the B-Final, finishing 10th with a time of 1:51.66.
- Sam Johanns competed in the championship final of the 50 free, finishing third with a time of 20.63.
- Alex Sironen, Robert Snader, Enrique Hernandez and Owen Dougherty all took part in the B-Final. Sironen led the field in the consolation final, finishing in 20.68. Snader touched in 11th, and Dougherty and Hernandez finished 13th and 14th, respectively.
- Xavier's men closed out the night with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay, with Sam Johanns, Robert Snader, David Bunnell and Alex Sironen finishing in 1:21.53.
- The men also competed in one meter diving, Xavier did not field a competitor.
- Xavier's men stand just 18 points behind Seton Hall in fourth place.
