Emily Conners, Caroline Gaertner pick up individual event wins

OXFORD, Ohio - Xavier men's and women's swimming closed out its regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon, facing off with the Miami RedHawks at the Corwin N. Nixon Aquatic Center. Xavier's next meet will be the BIG EAST Championships, held February 21-24 in Geneva, Ohio.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE

Emily Conners again posted a pair of strong performances in the free style sprints, winning the 50 free in 24.24 and taking second in the 100 free in 51.98.
Conners led three Musketeers who scored in the 50 free, with Paxtyn Drew taking fourth and Tianna Vozar scoring in sixth place. Vozar also picked up a third-place finish in the 100 free.
Caroline Gaertner finished first in the 100 back, touching the wall in 56.68.
Taylor Hogan led the Musketeers in three events, picking up two second place finishes in the 100 fly (57.12) and 200 fly (2:05.88) and a fourth place finish in the 200 back (2:06.73).
Katie Kerr led the Musketeers to the wall in a pair of events, touching the wall second in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.50 and placing fourth in the 500 free with a time of 5:10.04.
Xavier's women closed out the event by winning the 200 free relay with Caroline Gaertner, Vozar, Paxtyn Drew and Conners finishing in 1:36.13.
Xavier fell by a final score of 184-75.

MEN'S NOTABLE

Alex Sironen led the Musketeers in a pair of events, the 100 back (52.04 – 3^rd) and the 200 back (1:57.53 – 3^rd).
Matthew Dyer had a pair of team-leading finishes in the breaststroke, finishing fourth in the 100 (59.19) and third in the 200 (2:10.33).
Bradley Jackson led the Musketeers in the 200 fly with a third place finish (1:56.05) as well as in the 400 IM with a fifth-place finish (4:18.47).
Sam Johanns picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes in the free style sprint, posting a time of 21.83 in the 50 and 47.20 in the 100.
Three more Musketeers picked up third place finishes in the freestyle events, Jared Ritz (200 Free), Alex Wolfred (500 Free) and Nick Mahoney (1000 free).
Xavier closed the meet by taking second in the 200 free relay with Sam Johanns, Alex Sironen, David Bunnell and Enrique Hernandez posting a time of 1:25.92, just .01 seconds behind the winning Miami squad.
Xavier fell by a final score of 206-55.

Xavier has a three-week hiatus from outside competition as the Musketeers prepare for the BIG EAST Championships. The conference meet will be held in at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio from February 21-24.
