02.07.18 | Men's Tennis
CINCINNATI- Xavier men's tennis will host Valparaiso on Fri., Feb. 9 at the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club at 6 p.m. Xavier will travel to Richmond, Ky. on Sun., Feb. 11 to face Appalachian State at Eastern Kentucky's Greg Adams Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
Â
The Musketeers are coming off a close, 4-3 loss to Ball State, putting them at 0-3 on the season.
Jack Dykema, Gabriel Araujo and Nate Dell secured singles match wins for the Musketeers in their efforts.
Xavier head coach, Doug Matthews, shared his thoughts on what the team got out of the Ball State match.
"Although the Ball State match was a heartbreaker, we definitely took some positives from it," said Matthews. "We fought back at a few different different spots and really competed well. We know that every match left on our schedule is going to be similar to that and we just need to finish sets and matches better."Â
Â
Xavier faced the Crusaders at Valparaiso, Ind. last spring season, where the Musketeers suffered a 6-1 defeat. Valparaiso is currently 0-2 on the season after falling to Marquette on Feb. 3, 5-2. Appalachian State is 4-2 on the season, coming off a close loss to Presbyterian, 4-3. Â
Matthews understands the challenges that lie ahead this weekend.
"We have two tough matches this weekend," said Matthews. "Obviously we want to win, but beyond that we want to play good doubles and finish sets and matches."Â Â
