Conor Grammes went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a triple on Friday afternoon

OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore Conor Grammes drove in two runs on Friday evening at Miami (Ohio) and collected the save as the Musketeers posted a 2-1 victory over the RedHawks. Xavier improved to 5-12 on the year, while Miami (Ohio) dropped to 11-4.

Xavier broke open a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning to take a 2-1 advantage. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and a Miami (Ohio) runner on first base, Nate Soria threw out the RedHawk runner trying to steal second base to seal the victory.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Conor Grammes went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a triple.
• Ryan Altenberger scored both runs for the Musketeers as the freshman went 1-for-4 with a walk.
• Natale Monastra and Matt Warkentin both added one hit for the Musketeers.
• The RedHawks had two more hits (7-5) than the Musketeers and committed two more errors (2-0). Xavier left three more runners on base (10-7) than Miami (Ohio).

XU ON THE MOUND

• Senior Damien Richard pitched 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and one run. The Versailles, Ohio, native threw seven strikeouts with one walk.
• Junior Trey Schramm (3-1) threw three strikeouts in 1.1 innings of relief. He only surrendered one hit.
• Sophomore Conor Grammes pitched the final inning of the game, not allowing any hits or runs. He collected his first save of the season and the second of his career.

HOW XU SCORED

FIRST INNING - Conor Grammes hit a two-out, RBI single to left center field - scoring Ryan Altenberger.
EIGHTH INNING - Conor Grammes hit a one-out, RBI triple down the right-field line - scoring Ryan Altenberger.

• Xavier takes on the RedHawks on Saturday, March 17 at 4 p.m. in game two of the weekend series in Oxford, Ohio. The series finale is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 18 in Cincinnati. Sunday's contest will serve as the home opener for the Musketeers.
