SWEEP: Musketeers Top RedHawks, 13-3, in Home Opener

Xavier swept the weekend series vs Miami (Ohio) on Sunday afternoon
Xavier won the series opener, 2-1, on Friday before posting a 5-2 victory on Saturday. The first two games of the series were played in Oxford, Ohio.

 XU AT THE PLATE |
• Ryan Altenberger went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs. The freshman infielder also hit the first two home runs of his career in the win.
• Natale Monastra went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run and a home run. Joe Gellenbeck went 3-for-3 with four runs, two RBI and two home runs.
• Allbry Major finished the day going 1-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Chris Givin (1-for-4) added two runs and a RBI.
• Xavier had nine more hits (13-4) than Miami (Ohio) and left two fewer runners on base (5-3). The RedHawks also committed one more error (2-1) than the Musketeers.

 XU ON THE MOUND |
• Allbry Major (1-1) posted the first win of his Xavier career, throwing a season-high six strikeouts in five innings of work. The freshman only allowed two runs and two hits.
• Evan Miller (2.0 IP), Griffin Lanoue (1.0 IP) and Christian Glass (1.0 IP) combined to throw five strikeouts in five innings of relief. The pitchers only surrendered two hits and one run.

FIRST INNING - Xavier scored three runs on two hits. Ryan Altenberger scored the first run on a fielder's choice RBI before an Allbry Major two-out, two-RBI double scored the final two runs.
THIRD INNING - Natale Monastra hit a two-out, two-RBI single to left field - giving Xavier a three-run advantage.Â
FIFTH INNING - Ryan Altenberger and Joe Gellenbeck hit back-to-back solo home runs.
SIXTH INNING - Natale Monastra, Matt Warkentin, Ryan Altenberger, Joe Gellenbeck and Conor Grammes all hit solo home runs in the frame.
EIGHTH INNING - Mitch Gallagher hit a pinch hit, solo home run to left field on the first pitch of his at bat.

 WEEKEND SERIES NOTES |
• Xavier hit .303 in the weekend series versus the RedHawks, while posting 12 extra-base hits. the Musketeers outscored Miami (Ohio), 20-6, over the series.
• Ryan Altenberger led the Musketeers at the plate as the freshman hit .462 (6-for-13) with seven runs and three, extra-base hits. He also posted a 1.000 slugging percentage.Â
• Chris Givin hit .385 (5-for-13) with four RBI and three runs. Conor Grammes added four hits, three RBI, a double, a triple and a run.
• Xavier's pitching staff posted a 2.00 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 11 walks. The staff only allowed six runs over 27 innings pitched, while limiting the RedHawks to a .209 batting average.Â

• Xavier returns to action on Tuesday, March 20 against Kentucky at Hayden Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
• The Musketeers won the first meeting between the two schools this season, 3-2, in 10 innings in Lexington, Ky., on Feb. 20. The Wildcats were ranked No. 8 in the country at the time.
