Ryan Altenberger Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK - Xavier freshman infielder Ryan Altenberger was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in his career on Monday after helping XU to a series sweep over the weekend against Miami (OH).

The Morton, Ill. native hit .462 (6-for-13) in three starts with seven runs scored, two homers and 13 total bases as Xavier out-scored the RedHawks 20-6.

Altenberger led the team in runs scored, batting average and total bases. He also stole a base and played error-free in the field with 11 putouts and five assists.

In Friday's 2-1 win, he went 1-for-4 with a walk and scored both runs, including the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. After two hits and two more runs scored in Saturday's 5-2 win, Altenberger exploded with a 3-for-4 line, three runs scored and two homers in the 2018 home opener as XU won 13-3. The pair of blasts were the first of his career.

Xavier (7-12) returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Kentucky for a 3 p.m. game at Hayden Field.
