MORAGA, Calif. - Xavier baseball lost a late lead as Saint Mary's rallied for four in the eighth inning of a 7-5 comeback win on Sunday at Louis Guisto Field.

With the result, the Musketeeers (3-7) dropped both games of a Sunday doubleheader against the Gaels (6-3).

XU AT THE PLATE

• Xavier rebounded from a shutout in the first game of the day to score five runs on 11 hits.
• Mitch Gallagher paced the Musketeers with a 3-for-4 game, scoring a run, doubling and knocking in a run. It was his first multi-hit game of the season.
• Andrew Sexton and Natale Monastra both supplied 2-for-3 games, chipping in with an RBI apiece.
• Nate Soria (1-for-4, R), Matt Warkentin (1-for-5, R, RBI), Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-4, R) and Chris Givin (1-for-4, R) also collected hits for XU.
• Warkentin and Monastra are both riding five game hitting streaks, both tied for tops on the team.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Freshman Henry Miller was solid, going 6.2 innings before exiting in the seventh with a 4-2 lead and two runners aboard.
• Trey Schramm and Conor Grammes surrendered four runs in the eighth as Saint Mary's mounted a late comeback.
• Freshman Nick Zwack came on to face one batter and got the final out of the eighth for XU.

HOW XU SCORED

SIXTH INNING: Down 2-0, Xavier got a rally going with a single up the middle by Joe Gellenbeck. After a pinch hit strikeout by Natale Monastra, Matt Warkentin doubled to left center to bring Gellenbeck around. Mitch Gallagher then connected for a two out double down the left field line to tie the game. Andrew Sexton followed with a single to left, bringing home Gallagher and giving XU its first lead at 3-2.
SEVENTH INNING: Chris Givin smacked a one out double to left field and came around to score on a single to right field by Natale Monastra.
EIGHTH INNING: Nate Soria led off with a bunt single to third, moving to third on an error and coming home on a sacrifice fly to left center by Ryan Altenberger.
