Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. - Xavier baseball jumped in front with a run in the first inning, but Saint Mary's responded with nine unanswered runs to finish off a series sweep with a 9-1 win on Monday at Louis Guisto Field.
The Musketeeers (3-8) lost a fourth straight game and will look to rebound at Cal on Tuesday evening. The Gaels improved to 7-3 on the young season.

• Xavier continues its west coast trip with a road game at Cal on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 10:05 p.m. ET.

• Xavier managed just four hits and one run in the series finale, scoring its lone run in the first inning.
• Freshman Ryan Altenberger went 1-for-4 with a run scored, stealing a base in the first inning as well.
• Chris Givin was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
• Conor Grammes (1-for-4) and Nate Soria (1-for-3) also collected hits for Xavier.

• Freshman Griffin Lanoue got the start and lasted two innings, allowing two earned runs and three hits.
• Junior Matt Kent came on in relief, pitching three innings and allowing five earned runs with three strikeouts.
• Freshman Trevor Olson followed out of the bullpen, allowing one earned run in two innings to go with a strikeout.
• Senior Christian Glass finished out the game with a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one and working around two walks.

FIRST INNING: Ryan Altenberger led off the game with a single through the left side and then stole second with one out. After a strikeout, Altenberger came around to score on an error by the Saint Mary's second baseman which allowed Joe Gellenbeck to reach.
