Gellenbeck Homers, Major Dominant in Relief as XU Drops Weekend Opener at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Joe Gellenbeck homered and Allbry Major was dominant in relief, but Xavier baseball fell 4-3 in its weekend opener at Seton Hall on Friday at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Xavier fell to 11-22 overall with the loss and has now dropped five in a row, all by two runs or less.
The Pirates improved to 13-12-1 overall with the win.

• The Musketeers continue the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. at Owen T. Carroll Field.

• Joe Gellenbeck (2-for-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) had a big game, homering for the fifth time this season in the third inning.
• Ryan Altenberger (2-for-4, 2B) returned to the lineup and put up his eighth multi-hit game of the season.
• Chris Givin (1-for-5, R), Matt Warkentin (1-for-4, 2B), Allbry Major (1-for-4, R), Nate Soria (1-for-3, RBI, BB) also collected hits for XU.
• Givin extended his team-best hitting streak to seven straight games with the hit.
• Major extended his team-best reached base streak to 12 straight games.
• Xavier has now homered in three straight games.

• Damien Richard got the ball to start and lasted 4.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and striking out six.
• Allbry Major (1-3) took the loss, but was dominant in relief tossing 3.1 innings of two-hit, scoreless relief to go with five strikeouts.Â

SECOND INNINGÂ | Allbry Major led off by reaching on an error, going to second on another error and advancing to third on a ground out. Nate Soria then stepped up and grounded out to shortstop to score Major, giving XU a 1-0 lead early.
THIRD INNING | With one out, Chris Givin singled to center and came across on a homer to right field by Joe Gellenbeck.
