Baseball Drops BIG EAST Home Opener to Creighton

Xavier fell to 12-25 (2-5 BIG EAST) on the season with the loss, while Creighton improved to 22-10 (2-4 BIG EAST) with the win.
The win for the Bluejays snapped XU's six-game winning streak in the series.

• Conor Grammes went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, collecting his team-leading 16th multi-hit game of the season. The homer was his sixth of the year.
• Chris Givin went a perfect 3-for-3 with a solo homer, pushing his team-best hitting streak to 11 straight games. During the streak, he's hitting .353 (18-for-51) with 10 runs scored and 11 RBI.
• Ryan Fournier came off the bench to go 1-for-2 with the first homer of his college career, a solo shot in the eighth.
• Mitch Gallagher got the start at second base and went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk.
• Sam Flamini (1-for-2, R, SB), Blaine Griffiths (1-for-2, R, RBI), Matt Warkentin (1-for-5, R), Natale Monastra (1-for-4, R) and Ryan Altenberger (1-for-4) also provided hits for XU.
• Freshman Allbry Major finished the afternoon 0-for-2, snapping his team-leading reached base streak at 15 games.
• Xavier left the yard four times and has now homered at least once in five of its past six games.

• Matt Kent made the start for Xavier, going one inning and allowing three earned runs on a pair of homers.
• Trevor Olson came out of the bullpen to throw the next three innings, surrendering 10 earned runs and walking five.
• Christian Glass followed and allowed four runs in 0.2 innings of work.
• Griffin Lanoue tossed 2.1 innings, allowing just one earned run.
• Sean Douaire came on after to allow three earned runs in 1.1 innings.
• Grey Harmon made his season debut in the ninth, getting the final two outs of the game for XU.

 HOW XU SCORED |
SECOND INNING | Natale Monastra led off the inning with a double over the center fielder's head, going to third on a single to left by Conor Grammes. Batting next, Nate Soria grounded into a double play to score Monastra a make it a 7-1 game.
THIRD INNING | Mitch Gallagher came up first and launched a solo homer to left on the first pitch he saw. Chris Givin then followed with an 0-1 solo shot that bounced over Victory Parkway, making it a 9-3 game.
EIGHTH INNINGÂ | Sam Flamini singled through the left side, stealing second and coming around to score on a double to left center by Blaine Griffiths. Matt Warkentin followed with a single up the middle to put runners on the corners. After a walk by Andrew Sexton, Creighton went to its bullpen for the first time in the game. The new pitcher, John Sakowski, immediately got Natale Monastra to ground into a run-scoring double play. With a runner on third and two outs, however, Conor Grammes hit a towering homer to left to make it 21-7. Ryan Fournier then followed with a solo shot to left, capping the scoring for XU.
