Grammes Homers, Strikes Out Six as Xavier Baseball Drops Game Two of Weekend Series Against Creighton

CINCINNATI - Conor Grammes had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a homer and reaching base five times in addition to some solid pitching, but Xavier baseball fell 7-3 in game two of its weekend series against Creighton on Saturday at Hayden Field.
Xavier fell to 12-26 (2-6 BIG EAST) on the season with the loss despite loading the bases twice in the game and working eight walks.
Creighton clinched the series win and improved to 23-10 (3-4 BIG EAST) overall.

• Xavier finishes out the series against Creighton on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for Noon at Hayden Field.

• The Musketeers collected seven hits and worked eight walks in the game, loading the bases twice but unfortunately couldn't capitalize on several scoring opportunities.
• Xavier has now homered at least once in six of its past seven games.
• Conor Grammes had a big day, going 3-for-3 with a solo homer and a pair of walks, collecting his team-leading 17th multi-hit game of the season. The homer was his second of the weekend and his seventh of the year.
• Chris Givin went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and a sacrifice fly, but saw a team-high 11 game hitting streak come to an end. The junior shortstop still maintains a team-leading 15 game streak of reaching base.
• Ryan Fournier earned the start and went 1-for-4 with a double after smacking his first collegiate home run on Friday.
• Ryan Altenberger (1-for-5, R) and Allbry Major (1-for-5) also contributed hits for XU.

EIGHTH INNING | Nate Soria walked to lead things off and moved around to third on a double to right center by Ryan Fournier. After a Creighton pitching change, Chris Givin lifted a fly ball to center for a sacrifice fly to score Nate Soria and make it 6-2.
