Men's Tennis Takes on No. 2 Seed St. John's in BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals

CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier men's tennis will face the No. 2 seed, St. John's to open BIG EAST Championship play on Friday, April 27. The Musketeers, who are the No. 7 seed in the tournament, begin quarterfinal play at 12:30 p.m.

THE OPPONENT

St. John's finished the regular season 13-5 overall, including a win over Marquette in SJU's lone matchup against a BIG EAST foe, a 4-3 triumph on March 24.

The Red Storm are led at the top three singles positions by Luka Sucevic (13-5 at No. 1), Alan Nunez Aguilera (13-3 at No. 2) and Andrei Crapcenco (15-0 at No. 3).

THE MUSKETEERS

Xavier finished the regular season 5-15, including 2-4 against BIG EAST teams. In conference action, the Musketeers did pick up a win over the conference's No. 1 overall seed DePaul 4-3, taking the doubles point, before picking up wins on courts 3, 4 and 5 to seal the victory. The loss was the lone set-back of conference play for DePaul.

Xavier also picked up a 7-0 win over the No. 8 seed Villanova in regular season play.

UP NEXT

The winner of the match-up between Xavier and St. John's advances to the BIG EAST Semifinals to play the winner of the match between No. 3 Marquette and No. 6 Creighton at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28.
