Women's Tennis Tops Seton Hall, 4-1, to Advance to the BIG EAST Semifinals

CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier women's tennis advance to the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals for the fifth straight year, topping No. 5 Seton Hall, 4-1, in quarterfinal action. No. 4 seeded Xavier moves on to play the No. 1 seed, St. John's, tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.

MATCH NOTES - SJU

Xavier will face the No. 1 seed St. John's tomorrow at 9:00 a.m., marking the fourth-straight year Xavier will face the Red Storm in the BIG EAST Championships Semifinals.
St. John's is 15-5 overall and went 4-1 in BIG EAST play, falling only to DePaul.
The Red Storm topped No. 9 seed Georgetown, 4-2, in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals to advance to the Semifinals.
The winner will move on to face the winner of the match between No. 2 DePaul and No. 3 Marquette on Sunday in the BIG EAST Championship game.
The Musketeers have advanced to at least the BIG EAST Championships Semifinals each of the five years Xavier has been in the BIG EAST.
Xavier is 7-3 all-time in BIG EAST Championships matches and 1-2 against SJU in BIG EAST Championship matches.

RUETHER CLINCHES MATCH

Xavier took the 1-0 lead on the doubles point after Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson took No. 1, 6-2, to open up. Seton Hall picked up the win on No. 3 doubles, as Elizabeth Bagerbaseh and Zoe Manion fell, 7-5. Rachael Reichenbach and Ahmeir Kyle secured the doubles point with a 7-5 on No. 2 doubles.
Seton Hall tied the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kyle on No. 1 singles.
Xavier retook the lead, 6-3, 7-5 on Sophia Abelson's No. 3 singles win.
Xavier extended the lead to two, 3-1, with a 6-4, 6-2 win for Rachael Reichenbach on No. 4 singles.
Kaitlin Ruether clinched the win on No. 6, winning 6-4, 6-1 in her first BIG EAST Championships meet.
On No. 2 doubles, Lauren Ghidotti battled back after falling in the first set, 6-4, and falling behind in the second set, to go ahead 6-5 in a match that went unfinished.
Bagerbaseh took the first set, 6-1 in No. 5 singles before falling 6-4 in the second set. She was behind 2-1 in the third set when the match was clinched.
