Women's Tennis Picks Up Two Wins Over Ranked Opponents in Setback Against Michigan State

Xavier took a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point, with Emily Flowers and Natalie Smitek taking a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court in the first decision, and Abby Nugent and Clara Owen securing the point with a 6-3 win on the No. 1 court over the No. 88 ranked pair of Ellie Blackford and Matilde Morais. Madeleine Rexroat and Ella DeFord were tied, 5-5, on the No. 2 court when the point was decided.
Michigan State tied it a 1-1 with the first singles decision, a 6-1, 6-1 decision on the No. 2 court against Madeleine Rexroat. The Spartans moved ahead 2-1Â with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Abigail Siminski on the No. 6 court. A. 7-5 7-6 (3) win on the No. 5 court against Clara Owen made it a 3-1 MSU advantage.
Abby Nugent took the No. 1 court, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, over No. 116Â Amara Brahmbhatt to cut MSU's lead to 3-2.Â
The Spartans clinched the match with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 decision on the No. 4 court against Ella DeFord, setting the final score at 4-2.Â
