Baseball Wins BIG EAST Opener at Georgetown, 6-2

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Xavier baseball won its BIG EAST opener on Friday, getting three home runs en route to a 6-2 win over Georgetown at Shirley Povich Field.
The Musketeers improved to 11-17 (1-0 BIG EAST) with the win, while Georgetown dropped to 7-20 (0-1 BIG EAST).

• Xavier gets back to action immediately, playing game two of the weekend against the Hoyas at approximately 6:30 ET.

• Xavier collected 15 hits as five regulars posted multi-hit games.
• Conor Grammes had a big game, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. The sophomore also launched his fifth homer of the season, raising his batting average to .333 for the season.
• Allbry Major was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, both coming on a solo homer in the ninth inning. The longball was the first of his collegiate career.
• Matt Warkentin also had a three-hit day, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.
• Nate Soria was 2-for-4 with a solo homer, his third of the season.
• Ryan Altenberger went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. The freshman is now a perfect 9-for-9 for the season in steals.
• Chris Givin (1-for-5, RBI) and Andrew Sexton (1-for-3, R) also added hits for XU.

• Senior Damien Richard got the start and logged five innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits and striking out four to pick up his first win of the season.
• Freshman lefty Trevor Olson followed with a perfect sixth, striking out one and holding the Hoyas hitless.
• Freshman righty Allbry Major finished the game with three innings of one-run relief, scattering four hits and striking out one to earn his first save of the season.Â

SECOND INNING | Conor Grammes led off with a solo homer Conor Grammes, giving XU at 1-0 lead.
SIXTH INNING | Conor Grammes singled with one out, moving to third on a single by Allbry Major. Natale Monastra followed with a walk to load the bases before Matt Warkentin singled through the left side to score Grammes and make it 2-1.
SEVENTH INNING | Ryan Altenberger led off with single Conor Grammes and stole second base, coming around to score on a single by Conor Grammes.
EIGHTH INNING | With one out, Nate Soria launched a solo homer to left field to make it 4-1. Andrew Sexton then worked a walk, moving to second on a sacrifice by Ryan Altenberger. Chris Givin batted next and doubled down the left field line to bring home Sexton and give XU a 5-1 lead.
NINTH INNINGÂ | With one out, Allbry Major connected for a solo homer to right field to make it a 6-1 game.
