INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier baseball got a career-high eight innings from freshman Allbry Major and a three-hit game by Natale Monastra, but fell 6-4 in Sunday's series finale at Bulldog Park.

Xavier fell to 16-31 (5-10 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improved to 29-14 overall (6-5 BIG EAST).

XU AT THE PLATE

• XU worked seven walks and collected eight hits in the game, leaving nine runners on base in the loss.
• Conor Grammes was 2-for-5 for a third straight day, collecting an RBI and pushing his hitting streak to a team-leading 13 straight games. The sophomore now has a team-best 22 multi-hit performances this season.
• Sophomore Natale Monastra was 3-for-5 with a double, run scored and a pair of RBI. The three hits tied a career-high for the sophomore.
• Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-4, R, 2B), Matt Warkentin (1-for-4) and Andrew Sexton (1-for-2, 2 BB) also collected hits for XU.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Freshman Allbry Major shook off a five-run first inning to post a career-high eight innings on the mound, allowing no runs after the second inning.
• After the second inning, Major threw six scoreless frames and allowed just one hit. Butler put just two runners on base after the second as Major racked up four 1-2-3 frames.

HOW XU SCORED

FOURTH INNING | Joe Gellenbeck doubled to right field to lead off the inning, going to third on a passed ball and scoring on a single to left by Natale Monastra. With nobody out, Ryan Altenberger was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Both runners moved up again on a one out wild pitch and Monastra later scored on an RBI ground out by Mitch Gallagher to make it 6-2.
FIFTH INNING | Chris Givin led off with a walk, going to second on a fielder's choice and scoring on an RBI single through the left side by Conor Grammes. Joe Gellenbeck followed with a walk before a single by Natale Monastra scored Nate Soria to make it 6-4.
