Men's Soccer Ends Exhibition Slate with 0-0 Draw Against No. 7 Michigan State

FT. WAYNE, Ind. - Xavier men's soccer wrapped up its 2018 exhibition slate on Friday night, playing No. 7 Michigan State to a 0-0 draw at the Shindigz National Soccer Festival.
In a match that saw play delayed for almost an hour due to lightning, both teams had to adapt to some wet and dreary conditions.
"It was a pretty evenly played game and a strong performance from our group," said head coach Andy Fleming. "Their best chance was a bit better than ours, but we had command of the game for several stretches and they took one off the goal line late. I think many would agree that it was a high tempo, well-played Top 25 game."
Xavier wraps the preseason at 1-0-1 against a pair of top-10 preseason sides in No. 2 Indiana and No. 7 Michigan State. The Musketeers defeated IU 2-1 last week in Bloomington, Ind.
We feel that we are on the brink of being a top team and tested ourselves with two road contests against two top-10 ranked teams in one week. To come away with two results and concede just one goal was promising. While the results don't count, the performances and progress do. We'll regroup on Monday as we prepare for the season opener."
The next match will count for XU, as the Musketeers host Cincinnati Christian on Friday, August 24 at 7 p.m. inside Xavier Soccer Complex.
