Redshirt sophomore has helped XU to 310 minute scoreless streak to start season
NEW YORK - Xavier men's soccer redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Zachary Nelson was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after recording his third shutout of the season on Friday night as the Musketeers played to a 0-0 draw against Oregon State.
On stage in his home state, the West Linn, Ore. native had four saves against the Beavers while facing 19 shots and 12 corners. The shutout performance was his second solo and third shared clean sheet of the season.
Overall, XU has not allowed a goal in 310 minutes of soccer to start the season. Including the Musketeers' final scrimmage against preseason No. 7 Michigan State, Xavier has not allowed a goal in eight straight halves.
Nelson now has a 0.00 GAA and four saves in 245:20 minutes of action this season, helping Xavier to a 1-0-2 start with a pair of road results against programs from the Big Ten and Pac-12.
The Musketeers return to action on Friday, Sept. 7 hosting the annual "Crosstown Derby" at XU Soccer Complex. First touch is set for 7 p.m. ET.
