Men's Tennis Falls to Spartans in First Match of Double Header

Matthew Graft picks up a pair of wins against the Spartans; Musketeers take on Chicago State at 2:00 PM
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Xavier men's tennis opened the spring season with a double-header of duals, against Michigan State and Chicago State. The Musketeers fell in the opening match with the Spartans, 4-2, with the match against Chicago State beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Xavier opened up with a win in the No. 2 double spots for Matthew Graft and Connor LaFavre, who took the 6-3 win over Anthony Pero and Ivan Rakic. Brett Winters and Jack Dykema, in the No. 1 doubles spot, secured the doubles point for the Musketeers with a 6-4 win over John Carlin and Jack Winkler.
After taking the 1-0 lead, Michigan collected two-set wins in the No. 1 spot over Brett Winters, the No. 2 spot over Jack Dykema to take a 2-1 lead.
In the No. 3 spot, Matthew Graft pulled the Musketeers back into a 2-2 tie with a three set, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 win over Ivan Rakic.
After pulling into a draw, MSU picked up the final two points, both in three sets, in the No. 5 spot over Jan Vrba, and the No. 6 spot over Michael Lee.
