Samantha Dewey adds to her league-high total with her 12th goal of the season
WASHINGTON, D.C. -  A goal in the final 10 minutes against No. 10 Georgetown put the Musketeers within striking distance late, but Xavier women's soccer couldn't find the equalizer, falling 2-1, on Thursday afternoon. Xavier moves to 9-3-2 on the season and 2-2 in BIG EAST play.
A pair of first half penalty kicks gave the Hoyas a 2-0 lead at the break, an advantage that held until the 86th minute when Samantha Dewey scored her 12th of the season from Hayley Jakovich to cut the lead back to 2-1.Â
Xavier out-shot the Hoyas 10-4, a season-low on shots for GU, marking the first time since playing No. 1 Virginia on Sept. 5 that Georgetown was out-shot by their opponent. It's only the third time this season that the Hoyas haven't held the advantage on shots, the other coming against then No. 10 Duke.
Â
25' | GEORGETOWN | Following a Xavier foul deep in the box to the left side of the goal, GU's Carson Nizialek made a penalty kick to put the Hoyas up 1-0.
41' | GEORGETOWN | After a Xavier foul at the top of the 18-yard box, Nizialek again made a penalty kick to push the GU lead to 2-0.
86' | XAVIER | From around midfield, Hayley Jakovich served the ball into the box to Samantha Dewey, hitting a GU defender. GU's goalkeeper came out to collect it and Dewey flipped the ball over the keeper into the right corner of the net.
