Musketeers Close out Weekend with Top Scorers in Singles and Doubles

CINCINNATI – Xavier women's tennis closed out play in the University of Cincinnati Pam Whitehead Invitational this past weekend. The Musketeers competed in singles and doubles matchups against Bowling Green, UT-Chattanooga and Cincinnati over a two-day span. Emily Thomas (second place) and Hunter Roper (third place) ended the tournament in the top-three for singles points scored. Ahmeir Kyle and Thomas also got second place for points scored in doubles, scoring 12 on the weekend.
Xavier took on Bowling Green in singles play to begin the tournament on Friday. In the No. 1 spot, Ahmeir Kyle defeated the Falcons, 6-2, 6-1, while teammate Emily Thomas defended the No. 2 spot with a 7-6(4), 6-0 victory. In the No. 3 spot, Kaitlin Ruether won 6-3, 7-5, and Anna Letto followed suit with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 5 spot. Lauren Fitz-Randolph won in the No. 6 spot, 7-6(8), 7-6(4). Natalie Moyer fell for the first time this fall season in the No. 4 spot.
The Musketeers then moved on to doubles, taking on UT-Chattanooga. Xavier swept the Mocs in three doubles matchups. Kyle and Thomas took the No. 1 spot, 6-2, while Rachael Reichenbach and Ruether grabbed a 6-4 win. Hunter Roper and Fitz-Randolph took the No. 3 spot, 6-1.
The Musketeers then took on Cincinnati in the second session of singles for day one. Xavier took the No. 1 and No. 2 spot with victories from Thomas and Roper. Reichenbach took the No. 3 spot as well, winning 6-2, 6-7(8), 10-5. The bearcats took the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots from Ruether, Moyer and Letto.
In the second session of doubles, Xavier took on Bowling Green. Thomas and Ruether fell in the No. 1 spot, 6-4. Reichenbach and Moyer defended the No. 2 spot, winning 6-4. Fitz-Randolph and Letto finished the session with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot over the Falcons.
Xavier took on Cincinnati in the final round of doubles, taking two out of three from the Bearcats. Kyle and Thomas defended the No. 1 spot with a 6-4 victory, while Fitz-Randolph and Letto won 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. Reichenbach and Roper fell in the No. 2 spot, 6-4.
In the final round of singles, Xavier faced off against UT-Chattanooga. Thomas fell in the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 4-6, 11-9. Roper won the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-4, while Ruether defended the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-2. Moyer fell in the No. 4 spot, while Fitz-Randolph rounded off the weekend for the Musketeers in a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 victory in the No. 5 spot.
The Musketeers are back in action on Thursday, October 17th at the ITA Regional Championships in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
