Summary |
• Xavier kicked off the match with a 4-0 run to take the lead, and they would never relinquish it. While maintaining a two or three point advantage, the Musketeers held the score until they broke it open at 17-15. Following a 5-0 featuring back-to-back kills from MaryAnn O'Toole, Providence threw in the towel and Xavier won 25-19.
• Providence came out hot in Set 2, taking a 4-1 lead early. Echoing Xavier's first set, they would never fall behind. Though Xavier managed to tie the score three times at 12-12, 17-17 and 19-19, they could never pull ahead and the Friars ultimately took Set Two by a score of 25-21.
• Again, Providence came out strong in Set Three with a 4-0 run, but Xavier fought back quickly to tie the score at 6-6. Providence wouldn't give the lead away, but Xavier tied the score three times before finally breaking through at 12-12. In the midst of a 7-1 run, Xavier took control of the set and the match. They would go on another 5-0 run before easily clinching Set Three 25-18.
• Set Four was all Xavier after exchanging points until 8-8. The Musketeers took it from there, as a 6-1 run followed shortly by a 6-0 run put the match well out of reach for the Friars, and the Musketeers didn't have to break a sweat in the 25-14 victory.
