  Summary |
• A competitive Set One saw a few ties early, but Villanova controlled the lead following a 3-0 run to go up 5-3. They held the advantage until a 3-0 run at 10-8 gave the Wildcats further control. Xavier fought back within two at 15-13, but a strong 6-0 Villanova run made the deficient unsurmountable. Despite a late flurry by the Musketeers, the Wildcats took Set One 25-19.
• Neither team could gain an edge in the early going, as the teams combined to string points together only five times until the score was 18-16 in favor of Xavier. Villanova quickly responded with a 4-0 run to echo Xavier's 3-0 run and retook the lead 21-19. The lead never grew, but Xavier ran out of time as Villanova took Set Two by as core of 25-23.
• Set Three was marked by three Villanova runs to lead by seven, and a late 5-0 run to take a 10-point advantage, and the lead would swell to as big as 11. Xavier mounted a furious comeback, winning seven of the last nine points, but in the end, Villanova cruised to a 25-20 victory.Â
