Men's Tennis Finishes Play at ITA Ohio Valley Regional

Nashville, Tenn. – Xavier men's tennis closed out their fall season at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Tournament this past weekend, hosted by Vanderbilt University. The Musketeers competed in a singles main draw and a doubles main draw, ending the weekend with five singles wins and one doubles win.

SINGLES MAIN DRAW

Matthew Graft fell in the opening round of the Main Draw Singles to Indiana, 6-4, 6-0. Brett Winters opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over TSU. Winters would fell in the next round to an opponent from Tennessee, 6-2, 6-1. Pejic Srdan matched up with Zac Brodney of Indiana in the opening round but fell, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Jan Vrba also competed in the Main Draw and fell in the opening round to an opponent from Middle Tennessee State, 6-3, 6-0.

DOUBLES MAIN DRAW

Graft and Vrba teamed up in the Doubles Main Draw and fell to Vanderbilt in the opening round of play, 8-2. Winters and Pejic also competed in the Doubles Main Draw and won in the opening round, 8-4, over a duo from Austin Peay. In the next round, Winters and Pejic fell to a team from Louisville, 8-7(3).

CONSOLATION

In singles consolation play, Jan Vrba opened up with a 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 victory before falling in the next round to Matthew DeMarco, 7-6(1), 6-4. Srdan Pejic opened up with a 6-2, 6-3 victory and followed the effort with a 6-3, 6-0 win over James Bell. Pejic fell in the third round, however, 6-3, 7-6(3). Matthew Graft added an opening round victory, winning 6-2, 1-6, 10-5. He fell in the second round to Steven Karl.
