Four Musketeers Score in Double Figures, Xavier Tops Lipscomb, 87-62

Junior Paul Scruggs had 15 points, six assists, six rebounds and two steals on Saturday afternoon
CINCINNATI - Four Musketeers scored in double figures on Saturday afternoon as Xavier men's basketball scored a season-high in points - defeating Lipscomb, 87-62, at Cintas Center. No. 25/23 Xavier moved to 7-1 on the year, while the Bisons dropped to 3-5.
• Xavier hit four of its first five shots to open the game, taking a 9-4 advantage at the 17:27 mark. Lipscomb responded by going on a 6-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 10-9, at the under 16-minute media timeout.
• The Bisons had their largest lead of game, 14-11, with 13:01 on the clock before Xavier went on a 10-2 run over the next five minutes to make the score 21-16. Lipscomb got with two points (26-24) with 6:12 left in the half before Xavier responded with a 14-2 run on 6-for-7 shooting. Tyrique Jones capped the run with a dunk with 1:26 on the clock, forcing a Lipscomb timeout.
• Neither team scored in the final 1:26 of the half as the Musketeers to a 40-26 lead into the locker room. Xavier has led at halftime in seven of its eight games this season.
• Senior Tyrique Jones nearly had a double-double in the first half, posting a team-high 10 points and eight rebounds. The forward was 5-for-8 from the floor.
• Junior Paul Scruggs added eight points on 4-for-7 shooting with three rebounds and three assists. Freshmen Zach Freemantle and KyKy Tandy both added five points.
• Xavier held a 20-19 edge in rebounds in the first half and forced 12 turnovers, converting the miscues into 13 points.
• Xavier opened the second half on a 12-5 run on 5-for-6 shooting, taking its first 20-point advantage (52-31) of the game. Lipscomb closed within 12 points (52-40) at the 15:01 mark on a Miles Miller layup, but Naji Marshall went on a 9-0 run to put Xavier ahead, 61-40, with 13:31 left in regulation.
• The Musketeers led by 15 or more points for the remainder of the game. Xavier closed the game on a 13-4 run on 6-for-8 shooting to pull away for the 87-62 victory.
• Zach Freemantle scored 10 of his season-high 15 points in the second half.
• Xavier had four players score in double figures for the third time this season, led by junior Paul Scruggs and freshman Zach Freemantle who both scored 15 points. Freemantle's 15 points were a season high as the forward went 4-for-5 from the floor and 7-for-7 from the foul line. Scruggs was 7-for-13 from the floor as the guard scored in double figures for the eighth time this season.
• Xavier dished out a season-high 21 assists, paced by junior Paul Scruggs who had a season-high six. Junior Naji Marshall added five assists, while freshman Dahmir Bishop chipped in four.
• Senior Tyrique Jones posted his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds. The forward was 7-for-10 from the floor.
• Junior Naji Marshall added 13 points on 6-for-13 shooting to go along with four rebounds and a team-high three steals. Xavier had 10 steals in the game, its third game of the season with 10 steals.
• Xavier held a 43-36 advantage on the glass and outscored the Lipscomb bench, 33-0. The Musketeers scored 12 more points (24-12) off of turnovers.
• Xavier posted a .486 field-goal percentage, while limiting the Bisons to a .397 field-goal percentage. The Musketeers were also 8-for-24 from behind the arc and 7-for-13 from the foul line.
• Saturday's game was the first career game for freshmen Daniel Ramsey and KyKy Tandy. The two players combined for seven points, two rebounds and two assists.
• Xavier returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 against Green Bay. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
