Women's Soccer Advances to BIG EAST Championship Match with 2-0 Win Over Villanova

Musketeers pick up a school-record 15th win; Will face No. 2 seed Georgetownon Sunday
OMAHA, Neb. – A 2-0 win over the No. 4 seed Villanova sends Xavier women's soccer to the BIG EAST Championship match on Thursday evening at Morrison Stadium on the campus of Creighton University. Xavier picked up its 15th win, a program-best mark, to advance to its first conference championship match since joining the BIG EAST.
Xavier took a 1-0 lead early in the first half on a Carrie Lewis goal, set up by Rachel Dewey. The one-goal lead held through the half, and the Musketeers added a second tally early in the second half after Hayley Jakovich found the ball off a save in the box, putting it back in for the insurance goal.
The Musketeer defense forced its 11th shutout of the season, with Olivia Jenkins picking up her seventh win and fourth shutout in seven starts.
Xavier (15-3-2) moves on to face No. 2 Georgetown on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 4:00 p.m. on FS1.

47' | XAVIER | On a free kick by Grace Bahr deep on the right side of the box, the ball was served to the far post where Molly McLaughlin got her head on it for a shot. The VU punched the ball out, bouncing off of Samantha Dewey to Hayley Jakovich who shot low to the right corner to put Xavier ahead, 2-0.

- Carrie Lewis' first half goal was her second of the season and fourth of her Xavier career. Its her second game-winner in a row, also scoring the game-winner at Butler to close out the regular season. Lewis also has a team-high eight assists for 12 points on the season.
- Hayley Jakovich picked up the insurance goal early in the second half, her second of the season. With three assists, she has seven points for 2019.
- Samantha Dewey picked up an assist on Jakovich's goal, brining her season total to 30 points.
- Villanova held an 18-8 advantage on shots, but both teams had five looks on-frame
- Grace Bahr, Hayley Jakovich and Grace Brauer played the full 90 minutes in frame and Olivia Jenkins collected a career-high matching five saves to force the 11th shutout of the season for the Musketeers. In Jenkins' 10 starts, she is 7-2-1 with four shutouts.
- With a 15th win, the 2019 Musketeers set a new school record for most wins in a single season.
- Xavier's 11 shutouts match the 2000 team for most clean sheets in a single season.
- Xavier's 40 goals scored are the second most in program history.

- Xavier advanced to the BIG EAST Championship match on Sunday Nov. 10 at 4:00 p.m. ET on FS1. Xavier will face No. 2 seed Georgetown, who defeated No. 6 Providence on Thursday evening.
