Musketeers remain undefeated at Cintas Center after shaving seven-point deficit
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's basketball defeated Western Carolina, 74-61, on Wednesday evening in the Skip Prosser Classic. Quentin Goodin and Jason Carter both scored career highs as they led the Musketeers in a comeback win to remain undefeated at Cintas Center this season.

FIRST HALF |
- Xavier began the game with a made second-chance layup by Paul Scruggs following an offensive rebound grabbed by Tyrique Jones. Two possessions later, Quentin Goodin connected on a three-pointer from the right side to give Xavier a 5-3 lead with 16:50 left to play in the half.
- With 13:40 left to play, Zach Freemantle finished a fast break dunk off a steal from Bryce Moore to give the Musketeers a 12-5 lead. Two possessions later, Jason Carter forced a Western Carolina turnover and finished the effort with another slam dunk off the fast break.
- Xavier took a 19-8 lead with 11:30 left to play in the half after Carter connected on a contested layup from the right block of an assist from Moore. Western Carolina then went on an 10-0 run over the next 3:55 to bring them within one point of Xavier.
- Western Carolina tied the game at 21 with a made three-pointer from Mason Faulkner. On the next Xavier possession, Freemantle was fouled and connected on two free-throws, giving Xavier a 23-21 lead with 3:20 left to play.
- Goodin scored four-straight points for the Musketeers, trading made shots with Western Carolina. Xavier regained their lead with 0:45 left to play following a made three-pointer from Scruggs, making the score 30-27.
- Moore and Western Carolina's Mason Faulkner both connected on a pair of free-throws, making the score 32-29 in favor of the Musketeers at halftime.
- Goodin led the way in scoring for the Musketeers in the first half, scoring 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Goodin connected on two three-pointers, grabbed two rebounds and dished out two assists in 17 minutes of play.
- Freemantle added seven points for the Musketeers while Carter added six points, shooting 100 percent from the floor in the half.
- The Musketeers shot 41 percent from the floor in the half and scored 16 points in the paint. Xavier out-rebounded Western Carolina 20-15 and grabbed five offensive rebounds in the half, four of which were brought down by Jones.

- Western Carolina and Xavier combined to score 13 total points in the first two minutes of the half and remained tied at 37 with 18:00 left to go. Jason Carter connected on a three-pointer for the Musketeers and Paul Scruggs made a driving layup to open the half.
- After the Catamounts took a 44-40 lead, Xavier answered with back-to-back three-pointers from Bryce Moore and Quentin Goodin to bring the Musketeers within one with 16:35 left to play in the half.
- Western Carolina made three-pointers on consecutive possessions to take a 50-43 lead. Following a Xavier timeout, Goodin scored four-straight points for the Musketeers to bring them back within three with 14:40 left to play.
- Carter tied the game at 55 with 9:50 left to play in the half following a made dribble-drive layup from the left side of the basket. On the next possession, the Musketeers took a 57-55 lead after Freemantle connected on a layup in the paint.
- Tyrique Jones finished two layups for the Musketeers on consecutive possessions to give them a 64-57 lead with 5:30 left to play. Carter then drained his second three-pointer of the night with 3:50 left to give Xavier a 67-57 lead.
- Goodin connected on another three-pointer and two free-throws to give the Xavier a 72-61 lead. Carter threw down a fast break dunk on the next possession off a Western Carolina turnover, resulting in a 74-61 final score in favor of the Musketeers.
- Goodin scored 13 points in the half on 5-of-5 shooting from the field, including two three-pointers.
- Carter added eight points in the second half, shooting 3-of-5 from the floor. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists for the Musketeers.
- Xavier shot 15-of-26, 58 percent, from the field in the second half and connected on five three-pointers.
- The Musketeers had five steals in the half and blocked six shots.

- Quentin Goodin led the way in scoring for the Musketeers with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field. He also grabbed a rebound and dished out three assists in 35 minutes of play.
- Goodin shot a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range in the contest and tied his career high for made three-point field goals in a game.
- Jason Carter scored a Xavier career-high 16 points in the game on 7-of-9 shooting. Carter shot 100 percent from beyond the arc and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
- Zach Freemantle added 13 points for the Musketeers, just two points shy of his career high. Freemantle shot 4-of-6 from the floor and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
- Xavier has now won 12 straight games at Cintas Center and is 8-0 at home this season.
- The Musketeers are now 8-0 when holding their opponents to under 70 points.
