Musketeers collect five top-three finishes on second night

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Xavier swimming closed out the second of four nights of competition with two school record performances and a third BIG EAST Championship for the meet. Both teams stand in third place after two days of competition.

The Musketeer women collected two top-three finishes, with Emily Conners placing second in the 50 free and the 200 free relay taking silver in a school-record performance. The Xavier men finished with three top-three performances, including bronze finishes for Matt Dyer and Sam Johanns and a win in the 200 free relay.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE

Katie Kerr competed in the Championship heat of the 500 free, placing seventh with a season-best time of 4:57.73.
Tilly Baldwin and Emma Kauffeld competed in the B-Final of the 500 free, finishing 11th and 14th respectively.
Emily Saugstad's time of 2:05.26 in the B-Final of the 200 IM led Xavier, placing 10th. Alison Herman and Lydia Schaeffer also competed in the B-Final, placing 12th and 15th respectively.
Emily Conners took second in the Championship heat of the 50 free with a time of 23.01. Tianna Vozar's time of 23.48 placed seventh in the championship head.
Laura Dicus and Maureen Cummins competed in the B-Final of the 50 free, finishing 10th and 1tth.
Emily Conners, Tianna Vozar, Maureen Cummins and Laura Dicus closed out the evening for the women with a school-record performance in the 200 free relay, finishing in 1:31.85 to take second.
The women moved to third place following four racing events tonight, as well as a diving competition in which Xavier did not compete.

MEN'S NOTABLE

Ben Quon posted the top time in the B-Final of the 500 free, finishing in 4:30.11, nearly three seconds faster then the next closest competitor in the B-Final and just over second off the school record.
Nick Mahoney, Jared Ritz and Patrick Hacket also competed in the B-Final of the 500 free.
Matt Dyer set a season-best time of 1:50.22 in to 200 IM prelims, finishing third in the finals with a time of 1:50.45. Nathan Runyon finished fifth and Brandon Abboud finished eighth in the Championship final.
Chase Baldwin competed in the B-Final of the 200 IM, finishing in 1:53.13.
Sam Johanns led the Musketeers in the 50 free, taking third in the Championship final with a time 20.57. Enrique Hernandez tied for sixth and Christian Thomas placed eighth in the championship final.
In the 50 free B-Final, Alex Sironen took the top spot, finishing in 20.61. Matt Geraghty also competed in the B-Final, finishing in 21.31.
Alex Sironen, Christian Thomas, Brandon Abboud and Enrique Hernandez closed out the evening with a win in the 200 free relay, matching the school record time of 1:21.23 in the win.
Xavier's men moved up to third place, just five points behind Villanova and 33 points behind leader Georgetown.
