Xavier Falls to No. 23 Arizona State in Weekend Opener

TEMPE, Ariz. - Xavier baseball was shut out for the first time this season, falling 12-0 in the series opener on Friday against No. 23 Arizona State at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
XU fell to 5-6 overall and saw a four game losing streak come to an end. ASU remains one of the hottest teams in the nation with a 13-0 record.Â
Xavier returns to action on Saturday with an 8:30 p.m. ET start time scheduled for game two.Â

• Chris Givin led XU out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with a bunt hit.
• Ryan Altenberger was 1-for-3 with a double.
• Allbry Major (1-for-2, BB) and Andrew Sexton (1-for-3, BB) also provided hits for XU.
• The Musketeers were shutout for the first time this season after scoring at least three runs in each of their first 10 games.
• It was the first time XU had been shut out since March 10, 2018, a span of 49 straight games.
• XU left 11 runners aboard on in the game.
